Cumberland Gap was the 1st gateway to the west. It is a "gap" at the juncture of Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky and part of the "Wilderness Trail". This route was used by American Indians and later explored and widened by Daniel Boone. Settlers used it for over 50 years as a way to reach Kentucky from the east. We thought it was a wonderful place to visit.

What a great place to visit! When we lived in Tennessee, I (accidentally) wound up taking the kids there. We really enjoyed it.

Kelly, what a nice side trip! We love the Cumberland Gap, although it has been decades since we have been there. Glad you got to go off in that direction. Beautifully diverse country we have, isn't it?
