The Promise of Spring

I love sunflowers and last summer I planted some along the fence near my vegetable garden. I enjoyed them most of the summer and into the fall.

In January, I noticed what looked like a sunflower "volunteer" coming up. To my surprise this thing grew much taller than any of the others from last year. It survived a couple of cold snaps and is blooming in all of it's glory in February! What a wonderful reminder that Spring is on it's way!
